Something New in the Garden
By David Elder grade 6
On March 28, Laurel Anderson organized a work party with Jeff Dean, Ryan Peterson, and John McDonnell to build a new shed for the garden. It’s made out of peeled poles from redwoods that were thinned from the school forest. Peeling the poles of their bark stops decay.

Says Laurel, “Thinning redwoods allows other trees to grow larger so it helps maintain a healthy forest. Also we don‘t have to buy wood from a faraway, clear-cut site which destroys habitat.”  They will be adding a metal and plastic roof on top of the Douglas fir rafters. This will provide shelter from the heat for students working in the garden. THANKS JEFF DEAN, RYAN AND JOHN MCDONNELL
