Born into a multi-generational family of five adults and four children in Altadena, California, my parent's homespun values still influence me as a teacher today.
How many times did I hear my Dad say, "You can have your health and lose it, you can have wealth and lose it, but if you get a good education, no one can take that away from you." And, more importantly for daily reflection, "Leave a place better than you found it."
Following those words of wisdom, I received a BA in Music in 1977, a Professional Clear Multiple Subject Credential in 1984, both at Sonoma State University, and was also a recipient of one of the California Consortium of Independent Study's Teacher of the Year awards in 2001.
I am also author of "Trust the Children" (1989) an activity book about homeschooling and alternative education, as well as penning a book and musical album of 60 alliterative songs to help children learn to read, and four other books of varying subject matter.
I have four children, born from 1978-1990, and in my spare time enjoy reading, writing, gardening, singing, and gymnastics.
